ARBRE is a community of technology and method-oriented scientists who constitute the human resources that enable researchers to answer questions about biological systems.
Its members are principally:
- Core facility, research infrastructure and shared resource laboratory staff in academia and industry
- Experimental scientists with a technological/methodological expertise
- Developers of novel technologies or instrumentation
- Developers of novel softwares, databases and artificial intelligence algorithms
- Instrumentation company R&D and application scientists
- Contract Research Organization members
- Students and early-stage post-docs using biophysical instrumentation and wishing to network with experts
ARBRE is the optimal environment for the development of innovative integrative biophysical approaches, at the level of data acquisition, analysis and modelling, as well as for the design of unprecedented and ambitious combinations of methodologies, to decipher more efficiently crucial biological phenomena and to overcome significant biomedical challenges.
Historical background :
The original concept of ARBRE emerged in 2014 from a core group spearheaded by Patrick England (Institut Pasteur, Paris, France) and Thomas Jowitt (University of Manchester, UK)
This initiative led to two projects which legacy ARBRE upholds:
- MOBIEU (Molecular Biophysics in Europe) COST Action; 2016-2020:
https://www.cost.eu/actions/CA15126/ - MOSBRI (Molecular-Scale Biophysics Research Infrastructure) EU Horizon 2020-funded INFRAIA project; 2021-2025: https://www.mosbri.eu/. All the outcomes of MOSBRI activities are stored in the “MOSBRI Archive” section of the ARBRE website.
In parallel, to provide the community with a perennial legal entity status, ARBRE was created in July 2021 as a French law non-profit association with head office in Lyon and Adriana Erica Miele as its founding president.
ARBRE became a full member of the European Biophysics’ Societies Association (EBSA) in July 2025, consolidating its position in the European scientific ecosystem.
Governance :
ARBRE is a non-profit French law association governed by:
